Charges In Phoenix Freeway Shootings Case To Be Dismissed

On Tuesday, Leslie Allen Merritt Jr., accused of a string of Interstate 10 shootings left jail, and on Friday prosecutors announce they would be dismissing the charges against him.

Ballistics and phone records indicate that Merritt was not the likely culprit.

Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Warren Granville’s rule on Tuesday to modify Merritt’s release conditions after a defense motion that called into question the ballistics evidence that prosecutors say links Merritt to the crimes. Granville found that there was a “material fact” not presented earlier in the case,” according to the Arizona Republic.

From the very beginning, few believed that authorities had the right person.
