As May, Skin Cancer Awareness Month, is almost over and more cases of skin cancer being diagnosed than breast, colon, lung and prostate cancers combined, WalletHub’s in-depth analysis of 2016’s Best & Worst Cities for Your Skin is an appropriate topic of discussion.
Scottsdale, Ariz., has the most skin-care centers per 100,000 residents at 134.22 and along with Chandler, Mesa and Phoenix, Scottsdale tied at 141 for the most days with extreme tempretures.
Another surprise is reflected in the table below, Tucson (49) placed highest of the Arizona cities best for your skin. Each column represents the city rank for that catagory out of 150 cities analyzed by WalletHub.

Comparing the Best & Worst
- El Paso, Texas, has the fewest melanoma incidences per 100,000 residents, five, which is nearly eight time fewer than in Salt Lake City, the city with the most, 38.2.
- Jersey City, N.J., has the lowest skin-cancer death rate per 100,000 residents, 1.49, which is more than 5.5 times lower than in Port St. Lucie, Fla., the city with the highest, 8.25.
- Riverside, San Bernardino, Fontana, Moreno Valley, Rancho Cucamonga, and Ontario, Calif., have the worst median air-quality index, which is nearly three times higher than in Honolulu, the city with the best.
- San Jose, Calif., has the lowest smoking rate of adults, 9.6 percent, which is nearly three times lower than in Fort Wayne, Ind., the city with the highest, 26.2 percent.
- Baton Rouge, La., has the most dermatologists per 100,000 residents, 31.83, which is nearly 71 times more than in North Las Vegas, Nev., the city with the lowest, 0.45.
- Scottsdale, Ariz., has the most skin-care centers per 100,000 residents, 134.22, which is 93 times more than in Detroit, the city with the fewest, 1.44.
- Orlando, Fla., has the most cosmetics and beauty-supply stores per 100,000 residents, 87.52, which is 12 times more than in Brownsville, Texas, the city with the fewest, 7.23.
