Tucson Water is continuing to receive complaints from customers who were contacted by telephone and informed that their water service account is in arrears and requires immediate payment to avoid shutoff of their water service.
The persons calling are falsely representing themselves as Tucson Water employees and are asking for money to prevent accounts from being turned over to collections. The caller provides a toll free phone number to contact for more information about their account. Calls to the toll free number are unanswered, but a return call is made shortly after.
The Caller ID fraudulently displays the Tucson Water Customer Service phone number.
Tucson Water’s policy is to provide two written notifications of account delinquency or service interruption, followed by an outbound automated phone call asking a delinquent account holder to contact the utility immediately. Tucson Water does not request payment or financial information over the telephone.
