Pueblo Magnet High School Lady Warriors Honored

On Tuesday, the Pima County Board of Supervisors approved a proclamation recognizing the Pueblo Magnet High School softball team for their recent Arizona Division IV State Championship and declaring Tuesday, June 7, 2016, to be “Pueblo Magnet High School Lady Warriors – 2016 Division IV State Softball Team Championship Day.”

The official document was presented to Pueblo’s players and coaches at the Board’s meeting.

The proclamation reads:

WHEREAS, on May 9, 2016, the fifth-seeded Pueblo Magnet High School Softball Team won the Arizona Division IV State Championship with a 5-0 win over the second-seeded Camp Verde High School; and

WHEREAS, this victory capped off a very successful 26-6 winning season, in which this team outscored its opponents 37-5 in four games in this single-elimination tournament including a 10-0 mercy-rule win in the semifinals against the first-seeded Benson High School, thus enabling the Pueblo Lady Warriors to celebrate their first softball state title since 1990; and

WHEREAS, under the talented leadership of first-year coach Curtis Ruiz and fellow assistant coaches this championship team bonded together over a common passion of softball which was further magnified at concentrated practices, games and related team outings that were jointly undertaken with the supportive spirit and full cooperation of all teammates, coaches, family members, Warrior alumni and the greater Pima County community; and

WHEREAS, throughout this entire championship softball season the Pueblo Lady Warriors learned lifelong lessons about camaraderie, team pride, good sportsmanship, character, confidence, competence, respect, school spirit and community connectedness; and

WHEREAS, this exceptional experience will serve to shape these championship student-athletes in positive ways which will remain with them for the rest of their lives, and which will accompany them long after high school as they move forward to attain similar success in college and in their future professional careers;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ramón Valadez, Pima County Supervisor for District Two, in keeping with an honored tradition of recognizing similar significant team and personal accomplishments, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, June 7, 2016, to be:

“PUEBLO MAGNET HIGH SCHOOL LADY WARRIORS – 2016 DIVISION IV STATE SOFTBALL TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP DAY”
