On Friday evening June 10, 2016 Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office detectives were on scene at US 80 and Pima in Gila Bend working a serious fatal car accident. Two vehicles were involved and investigators consider speed as a significant factor. There were a total of 8 victims involved, 2 adults are deceased, 5 others were transported by air and 1 by ground.
There were children involved in this accident but no names or ages are being released at this time in the investigation but none of the children were fatally injured. The South bound SR85 ramp was closed from the I-8 for about 8 hours while detectives were on the scene.
The Maricopa County sheriff’s office has identified the two victims who died in Friday’s collision, as 45 year old Mario Lopez and 21 year old Melissa Ceballos.
On Wednesday June 15, 2016 the Maricopa County Sheriff’s office made an arrest on a suspect, the driver of the white dodge pick-up truck Jaynee Ray Gibson age 22. She has been charged with:
- 2 counts of manslaughter-reckless a class 2 felony,
- 1 count of aggravated assault on a minor class 2 felony
- 1 count of Agg-assault physical injury a class 2 felony ,
- 3 counts of Endangerment a class 6 felony,
- 1 count of Marijuana-possess/use a class 6 felon,
- 1 count of Drug paraphernalia-possess/use a class 6 felony.
The other three family members who were riding in the red 2006 Nissan Pathfinder are expected to recover from their injuries.
The driver of the white 2015 dodge ram pickup failed to negotiate a curve and veered into the southbound lane was Jaynee Gibson, she and the passenger in that vehicle are both also expected to recover from their injuries.
