On June 24, 2016 at 12:16 p.m., Marana Police Officers responded to 911 reports of a vehicle that was driving the wrong way on the I-10 from Cortaro. Reports indicated that the vehicle was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes.
Marana Police Department Officers and Department of Public Safety Troopers responded and located the vehicle on the Interstate. The vehicle failed to stop and continued traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes for approximately one mile before it stopped in the center median emergency lane. A DPS Trooper approached the vehicle and gave the driver multiple commands to exit the vehicle.
The driver refused and drove away from the Trooper. While the vehicle fled from the Trooper, the vehicle ran over his foot. The driver continued traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes until she reached milepost 244, where she again stopped in the center median emergency lane. DPS Troopers and Marana Police Officers approached the vehicle and were able to remove the driver from the vehicle and detain her. Northwest Fire Department responded and provided medical assistance to the injured Trooper. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The driver of the vehicle was also evaluated by Northwest Fire and transported to the hospital.
The driver of the vehicle has been identified as 53-year-old Karie Laflamme of Tucson. Laflamme has been booked into the Pima County Jail for Aggravated Assault of a Police Officer and Aggravated Assault of a Police Officer with a Weapon.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety Trooper has since been released from the hospital with non-serious injuries.
