At approximately 7:00 p.m. tonight, Pima County Search and Rescue along with Southern Arizona Rescue Association, Department of Public Safety Air Rescue, Pinal County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit, and Arizona Department of Corrections K9 have located Rafael Batiz. Mr. Batiz is being transported to the hospital for heat-related illness.
Mr. Batiz is expected to be okay.
Today, at approximately 8:45 a.m., the Pima County Sheriff’s Department received a report that Mr. Batiz was
missing in Sabino Canyon. Search and Rescue deputies responded and learned that last night, Mr. Batiz and two friends camped near Hutches Pool. At approximately 7:00 a.m. this morning, the group began the hike back to tram stop nine. Shortly after they began the hike out, Mr. Batiz separated from the others.
