Arizona’s Citizens Clean Elections Commission is hosting debates during this election cycle. On June 28, the Commission hosted a debate for LD 9 House candidates Rep. Dr. Randy Friese, Pam Powers Hannley, and Rep. Matt Kopec.
While Friese and Powers show command of the subjects, Kopec appears to struggle. Before his appointment by the Pima County Board of Supervisors, Kopec had done little except work on political campaigns. A former aide to Tucson City Councilwoman Karin Uhlich, he has been less than supportive of women in politics. He was a major force behind the attack on Pima County Democratic Party chairwoman Cheryl Cage; forcing her resignation.
The two top voter winners will appear on the General Election ballot with popular Republican challenger Ana Henderson
