As part of the Stone Avenue – Drachman Street to First Street Roadway Improvement Project – crews from KE&G Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), have started reconstructing the Speedway Boulevard and Stone Avenue intersection.
Crews will work two shifts, Sunday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. During the nighttime work, travel on Speedway Boulevard will be reduced to one lane in each direction to allow crews to remove and install new water lines and storm drains at the intersection. During the daytime work, travel on Speedway Boulevard will be two lanes in each direction. The daytime work will consist of intersection demolition and reconstruction.
The intersection reconstruction is scheduled to be complete by Monday, August 22, 2016, weather permitting.
The traveling public can expect delays when driving, bicycling or walking in this work area. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work zone.

The Stone Avenue – Drachman Street to First Street Roadway Improvement Project began on June 13, 2016. Improvements include new underground water lines and landscape irrigation, as well as a new underground drainage structure at Stone Avenue and Mabel Street. The project will also include new median islands, curbs, sidewalks with curb access ramps, driveways, street lighting, traffic signals, bus pullouts and a new asphalt roadway. The project is scheduled to be complete in April 2017.
The construction cost of the project is $2.5 million and was made possible by the voter-approved $2.1 billion Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Plan. For more information on the RTA Plan, visit http://www.rtamobility.com/
