Late Tuesday August 16, 2016, around 11:45 PM, deputies responded to a vandalism call on Chaparral Drive, east of Arch Drive, in the Village of Oak Creek. The caller indicated someone had smashed out a car window at their neighbor’s home. A few moments later, another call came in from a 29-year-old female victim who stated her ex-boyfriend, Hernandez, was just in her home unannounced and had confronted her in an upstairs bedroom. The father of her child happened to be with her that night and was also in the bedroom. This apparently upset Hernandez who walked out and left the home. She then heard a window break outside and discovered it was a car that belonged to her child’s father. She noted that Hernandez never lived at the Chaparral Drive location. Apparently, the suspect did know where to find a ‘hidden’ house key in the garage as the key was now missing. The suspect fled from her home.
Deputies obtained a description of the suspect’s vehicle, a 2007 grey Ford Mustang with a silver racing stripe, and began searching the area. When the suspect’s record was reviewed, deputies learned Hernandez had a current felony probation violation warrant out of Coconino County.
A deputy on the way to the Chaparral Drive home spotted the suspect vehicle stopped on Beaverhead Flat Road. It was unoccupied and the suspect could not be located. It appeared the vehicle had run out of gas.
Deputies later developed information that Hernandez might be on foot in the area of Cornville Road and Loy Road in Cornville. He was eventually located and began running as soon as he saw deputies searching. Deputies gave chase as Hernandez ignored commands to stop. Hernandez continued running and began aggressively approaching a deputy positioned at the opposite end of the roadway. Hernandez continued to disregard the lawful order of deputies and a Taser stun weapon was deployed. Hernandez was struck, stopped running, and was arrested without further incident.
23-year-old Louis Hernandez from Cornville was arrested for charges including Burglary, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Damage, Disorderly Conduct and Theft. He was booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center and remains in-custody on probation hold without bond.
