The Santa Cruz Valley Chapter of The Military Order of the World Wars will be holding a special event to remember those who have served and honor those who continue to serve today. The event will be the 31st of its kind and will be open to any and all who wish to participate regardless of their military history.
The MOWW Massing of the Colors celebration began as a way to honor those brave men and women who were lost in the wars in the early 1900’s. Initially the event was known as Decoration Day, but was later changed to Massing of the Colors. The MOWW conducted the first event in 1927 and has done so every year since.
The Santa Cruz Valley chapter event will feature special guest speaker Thomas Kirk, a former Vietnam POW, who will address the crowd.
Shelley Kais, a candidate for the Arizona Senate in LD2, has been promoting the event herself. She hopes people from all over Arizona will show up to support those currently serving in the military and pay respects to those who died in the name of freedom. Kais would love to see people come and draw inspiration from the proceedings. “The MOWW Massing of the Colors in Nogales AZ on September 10th is an opportunity for the community to come together to honor and remember those who served and made the personal sacrifice. This Service of Remembrance is designed to elevate, transform, and inspire–our people, our community, our country. On this– one of the most difficult weekends in our country’s history– let us celebrate who we are as the Santa Cruz community, the Great State of Arizona, and the United States of America.”
The event will take place on Saturday, September the 10. The doors will open at the Nogales VFW Hall, located at 653 N. Grand Avenue, at 9:00 a.m. The event is free.
