For Women Veterans Military Service Can Translate To Tempe Fire Service

Military veterans come with a lot of skills and experience that may be a fit for a fire and emergency services career. The Tempe Fire Medical Rescue Department will give women veterans the opportunity to learn more about fire operations at Fire Ops 101 Day on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fire Training Center, 1340 E. University Dr.

Registration is necessary by Sept. 23; go to www.tempe.gov/fire.

“This is a great opportunity for women who are military veterans to learn what firefighters do. It’s not a career they might consider, but I think given the chance to hear what it’s all about may get them interested in fire and emergency services.” said Tempe Vice Mayor Robin Arredondo-Savage, who is a military veteran.

At Fire Ops 101, attendees can get a feel for the job by participating in hands-on scenarios, watch technical demonstrations, and hear from firefighters and paramedics – some with prior military service – about their jobs.

Veterans interested in learning more about the event can contact Deputy Chief Mike Atkinson, Personnel and Professional Development, at 480-250-5426.
