Tucson Estates Shooting Suspect Apprehended

On Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at approximately 7:41 p.m., Pima County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an unknown problem in the 5000 block of West Lone Star Drive. When they arrived, they discovered a shooting had taken place.

One male victim was transported to Banner University Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies searched for the suspect, but were unable to locate him in the immediate area. Detectives responded to the scene, as well as to the hospital, to take over the investigation.

Detectives with the Robbery/Assault Unit, along with the Fugitive Investigative Strike Team (FIST), and San Xavier District Directed Patrol, have identified and located the suspect in this case.

The suspect has been identified as 18-year-old Michel Mendivil-Lopez. Mendivil-Lopez was taken into custody less than 24 hours after the initial incident.

He was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex for Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Armed Robbery, Domestic Violence Aggravated Assault for causing serious physical injury, and Domestic Violence Aggravated Assault with a weapon.
