Both are residents of Texas. While speaking with the driver regarding the traffic violations, the deputy could detect a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle interior.
During a check of the vehicle to locate the source of the odor, 2 large bags containing marijuana were found in the trunk. In the back seat, the deputy located 2 bags of marijuana edibles which are candy and cookies made from THC – the main chemical in cannabis plants. The marijuana weighed 38 pounds and the edibles came in at 12 pounds.
Additionally, approximately ½ gram of cocaine was found in Newell’s clothing which Luna claimed belonged to him.
As a result of the find, both Luna and Newell were arrested for charges including Possess Marijuana/Narcotic Drug for Sale, Transport/Sell Marijuana/Narcotic Drug, and Possession of Paraphernalia. Both remain in-custody, each on a $50,000 bond.
