On Saturday, October 8, 2016, just after 1:00 a.m., Pima County deputies responded to the Trinity Diamonds store, located at 6070 North Oracle Road, reference an audible alarm. When they arrived, they found evidence of a break-in, including significant damage to the front door of the business.
After speaking with witnesses and reviewing surveillance video, detectives determined that a male suspect, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and white shoes, used a rock to break the front door glass to gain entry into the business. Once inside, the suspect was seen breaking into a safe behind the front counter and grabbing multiple items. Witnesses stated the suspect ran to a red Dodge Durango before leaving northbound on Oracle Road. It has been determined that the total loss in damages and merchandise to the business is in excess of $11,000.
On Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Pima County detectives received information, from the Tucson Police Department (TPD), that they had the Trinity Diamonds heist suspect in custody. The suspect, 43-year-old Abel Mendoza Gutierrez, has been charged with 3rd Degree Burglary and booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex.
