Arizona Corporation Commission Warning Residents Of Home Repair Grant Scheme

The Arizona Corporation Commission is warning residents of a phone solicitation that tries to convince people to buy into a home repair grant scheme. The callers claim to work for the Commission.

The Commission learned of the scam from residents on the east coast who said they were contacted. The callers offer information on how to get a grant from the Commission for home repairs. The caller has the resident to charge $1,300 or more on their credit card in order to file the application and set up an appointment to receive the grant. The caller attempts to make the pitch seem legitimate by directing the resident to www.azcc.gov to verify the person in charge of the grant dispersal who they identify as “Bob.” The callers have used different names including Naomi Brooks, Mackenzie Brooks, and Kevin Martin. The reports came out of Chester, New Hampshire and Marshfield, Massachusetts.

The Arizona Corporation Commission does not provide home repair grants and does not endorse any solicitations. If you receive a call like this in Arizona, contact the Arizona Attorney General’s Office at (602) 542-5763, in Tucson at (520) 628-6504, or outside of the Phoenix and Tucson metro areas at 1 (800) 352-8431. To file a complaint online, visit the Attorney General’s website at www.azag.gov. Outside of Arizona, contact the Attorney General in your state.
