Pinal County Juveniles Charged With Murder, Armed Robbery

On Monday, November 7, 2016 at 7:28 p.m. the Pinal County Sheriff’s 9-1-1 Communications Center received a call from a resident in the 52000 block of West Cardinal Road in the unincorporated area of Maricopa. The caller reported that somebody was shooting at her and her husband from outside of their residence. The caller advised her husband went outside to check for the suspects.

Deputies responded and arrived within minutes. In the front yard of the residence, deputies discovered a 20-year-old adult male deceased inside of a 2001 Chevy truck as a result of numerous gunshot wounds.

Sheriff Paul Babeu stated, “Members of the Pinal County Sheriff’s Anti-Smuggling Enforcement Unit tracked the two sets of shoe prints from the vehicle back to a residence in the 2300 block of South Oak Road, in the unincorporated area of Maricopa.”

Sheriff Babeu continued, “Once at the residence, the homeowner advised the two subjects ran into the back room of his home. Deputies went inside of the residence, and the two suspects were taken into custody. The shoe prints on the suspects matched the pattern of the shoe prints at the scene. One of the suspects had blood on his shoes as well.”

The suspects were identified as Gustavo Olivo age 17 of Maricopa and Arthur Magana age 16 of Maricopa.

Sheriff Paul Babeu continued, “The 20-year-old victim was an acquaintance of the suspects and it appears robbery was the motive. The suspects were inside of the victims vehicle when one of the suspects shot him numerous times. After killing the victim, the suspects stole his money and other property. Both suspects were booked into the Pinal County Sheriff’s Jail for 1st Degree Murder and Armed Robbery with a Deadly Weapon.”
