The Ironman triathlon event on Sunday, Nov. 20, in Tempe and other East Valley communities will require some freeway related lane or ramp restrictions, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
The restrictions are scheduled as follows:
State Route 87 narrowed to one lane in each direction between McDowell Road and Shea Boulevard from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 20) for the cycling portion of the Ironman triathlon event. Car traffic will share the northbound side of SR 87 while the cyclists are using the southbound side of the highway.
Northbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) off-ramp at McKellips Road closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 20) for Ironman event. Southbound off-ramp at McKellips restricted but not closed. Consider exiting Loop 101 at McDowell or Thomas roads.
The Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) east- and westbound exits at Scottsdale Road and the eastbound off-ramp at McClintock Drive restricted with no southbound turns allowed onto Scottsdale/Rural roads or McClintock Drive from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 20). Consider using Loop 101 exits at University Drive or Broadway Road to approach the ASU area.
