On Saturday, December 3rd, 2016 at 8:45 p.m. the Pinal County Sheriff’s 9-1-1 Communications Center received a call from a citizen reporting he ran over somebody and the person was not breathing. The caller said this occurred on West Battaglia Road and Tacna Road, Arizona City.
Deputies and medical personnel responded to the scene and arrived within minutes. The adult female pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Sheriff Paul Babeu stated, “PCSO Traffic Unit deputies responded and determined the white sedan was traveling eastbound on the Battaglia Road. This roadway is not lit by street lights. The driver told deputies that while he was driving, he felt something collide with the front of his vehicle but prior to the accident he didn’t see anything in the roadway.”
“Sheriff Babeu continued, “After the accident, the driver immediately stopped and called 9-1-1. The driver did not show any signs of alcohol or drug impairment. Deputies were able to determine speed was not a factor in this accident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the female victim. Pedestrians are reminded to use extreme caution when crossing roads at night when no street lights are present.”
