Arthur Valenzuela Lopez, age 77, succumbed to injuries related to the collision and was pronounced deceased on December 2, 2016.
On October 14, 2016, at 8:00 p.m., Tucson Police Department officers and members from the Tucson Fire Department responded to a report of a serious injury collision involving two pedestrians and a vehicle at N. Alvernon Way and E. Flower St. Paramedics immediately transported both adult male pedestrians to Banner University Medical Center with serious injuries. The adult male driver of the vehicle was not injured.
The investigation on scene revealed the driver of a 2001 Honda CRV was traveling northbound on Alvernon Way in the curb lane, just past E. Grant Rd. As the driver continued north past E. Flower St., he struck the two pedestrians that were crossing the road from west to east. The pedestrians were not in or near a crosswalk. Speed does not appear to be a factor in the collision and there were no signs of impairment from the driver of the CRV. No citations were issued.
The other pedestrian was treated at the hospital and has since been released.
