Tucson Woman Killed After Grabbing Boyfriend’s Fleeing Vehicle

On December 11, 2016, shortly before 10:00 a.m., Tucson Police Department officers  and members from the Tucson Fire Department responded to an unknown trouble call in the 6200 block of S. Earp Wash Lane. Prior to arrival, they were advised a female, 20-year-old Alicia Mungia, had fallen off of a vehicle and was injured.

Ms. Mungia succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on December 17, 2016.

Detectives from the Tucson Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit responded to the scene continuing the investigation. The investigation is ongoing but the preliminary information revealed that Ms. Mungia and her adult male boyfriend had a verbal argument inside their residence.

The boyfriend left the residence and got into his 2007 four-door Infiniti passenger car that was parked on the street. As he was trying to drive away, Ms. Mungia ran out to the vehicle and began grabbing on the door handle and other parts of the vehicle.

She fell and it appears she struck her head on the road and her lower body was run over by the vehicle. Her boyfriend stopped the vehicle, called 911 and rendered aid until paramedic arrival. He remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this incident.

The investigation is ongoing and no citations or arrests have been made at this time.  Additional information will be released as it becomes available. Detectives are requesting anyone with information related to this incident to please call 88-CRIME (you can remain anonymous).
