Fire Reported From Roof Of Tucson Coffee Roasting Business

Tucson Fire Department responded to a building fire in the 2800 block of North Campbell with multiple calls being made to 9-1-1 reporting flames from the roof of the business.

Crews arrived on scene to find flames and smoke from what appeared to be a ventilation cap on the roof.  The affected business was a coffee roasting business and  two employees stated that embers ignited in the roaster and spread quickly up the ventilation system.

Several people pounded on the door to the business and advised the employees that flames were coming from the roof.  Firefighters arrived on scene and pulled a hose line into the business.  They quickly determined the flames were above them and  were able to extinguish any visible flames from below though  there was still heavy smoke being produced.

The ladder crew went to the roof and cut a small hole in the roof to inspect the area from above.  Firefighters extinguished hot spots from above but had to remove a large amount of insulation from around the coffee roaster duct work which was smoldering and causing the smoke production.

Fire investigators were on scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire.  Initial indications were that it was tied to the coffee roaster and accidental in nature but that was not deemed official as the investigation was in the early stages.

Building Safety/Code Enforcement was responding to the scene to inspect the building and determined if the business would be able to operate safely or if the building would be condemned.
