Salvation Army Phoenix Short Of Goal Even With Donations From Ezekiel Elliot Leap

Salvation Army Phoenix short of goal even with donations from Ezekiel Elliot leap

The Salvation Army was in the spotlight Sunday night when Dallas Cowboy player, Ezekiel Elliot, celebrated a touchdown by leaping into a giant red kettle. Elliot made a $21,000 donation to The Salvation Army and nationally the organization saw a 61% increase in online donations that evening.  However, the leap has not translated into local donations as giving is down more than $85,000 in the local region compared to last year. With the kettle season ending Christmas Eve, The Salvation Army hopes for a strong showing in the final remaining days of the campaign.

Red Kettle gifts are vital for the organization because they make up 60% of fundraising for the entire year. The gifts made during the holidays, determine which programs and services The Salvation Army will be able to provide throughout the upcoming year. Donations stay in the zip code in which they are collected providing meals, clothing, and shelter for those in need, as well as many other critical services throughout the year.

“We are grateful for the recognition the organization received from The Dallas Cowboys and Mr. Elliot on Sunday night,” said Major Nancy Dihle, Valley of the Sun program coordinator. “However, with only a few days left until Christmas, we still have a shortfall in Phoenix. We are hoping the increased awareness will inspire people to put in a few dollars as they pass a kettle. “

You can donate locally to The Salvation Army at Red Kettles found at local retailers, or online at www.salvationarmyphoenix.org. Donations can also be mailed to 2707 East Van Buren Street, Phoenix, AZ 85008 or call 1 800 SAL ARMY.
