Tucson Police Investigating Gang-Related Shoot Out, 2 Dead

The Tucson Police Department is actively investigating a double homicide that occurred in midtown early Thursday morning in the 4600 block of East Montecito Street.

On January 5, 2017, just after midnight, the Tucson Police Department received numerous calls about shots being fired. Officers responded to the area and were flagged down to a specific residence where the shooting took place. Officers located three adult males with obvious signs of gunshot trauma.

Two of the males were lying on the ground in the front yard and were pronounced deceased on scene. The other male was immediately treated by officers utilizing their Individual First Aid Kits (IFAK). Tucson Fire responded to continue medical treatment and then transported the male to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

The two deceased males have been identified as 20-year-old Eugenio Pesqueira and 21-year-old Jose Pichardo.

Detectives believe that Pesqueira and Pichardo had gone to the residence to commit a home invasion style robbery. Both were armed with firearms and began pointing their guns at the residents and their visitors who were outside. One of the individuals at the home also pulled out a firearm and gunfire was exchanged. Pesqueira and Pichardo were shot and killed. The other person who was shot was visiting a friend at the home. He is currently in stable, but critical condition. Detectives believe the incident was gang related and not a random shooting/home invasion.
