On May 8, 2017, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., 26-year-old Everett Hetzel of Black Canyon City committed theft and burglary by unlawfully entering a home in the 20100 block of Wagon Wheel Circle in Black Canyon City. Hetzel stole a red Honda 2000i power inverter generator and a 5-gallon gas can from inside the home.
The inverter has an estimated value of $1000.
As a coincidence, the YCSO deputy handling the theft report was patrolling in the area earlier and stopped to check on the stranded Chevy truck as the construction workers were aiding the driver. All stated they were ok. The deputy recognized the truck’s driver, Hetzel, from a previous call and left.
On May 8, 2017, about 8:30 AM, deputies were dispatched to the Wagon Wheel Circle home regarding a theft report. Deputies learned from 2 construction workers that a Honda inverter and gas can were missing from the home. The workers noted that a short time earlier, they assisted a man in a white Chevy truck with a battery jump but were unsuccessful. During that time, another man drove up, stopped to assist and was able to get the Chevy started. Both trucks left the location. The workers provided a description of both males. At that time, the theft was unknown.
After completing an initial investigation, the deputy drove to the last known address he knew for Hetzel in the 33000 block of Melanie Lane, Black Canyon City. When he arrived, he saw the white Chevy truck with Hetzel in the driver’s seat. As the deputy approached, he noticed the red Honda inverter and gas can, which were partially covered by a tarp, in the truck bed. When questioned about the Honda inverter, Hetzel denied knowing it was there. Hetzel also denied being seen by the deputy in front of the victim’s home trying to get his truck started.
Hetzel was arrested for Burglary and Theft. During a pat down search, the deputy found a small plastic bindle with methamphetamine residue and a glass pipe inside Hetzel’s pants pocket. He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and remains in the Camp Verde Detention Center on a $2500 bond. The property was returned to its rightful owner.
