Tempe, Tucson Mayors Wager Over ASU vs. UofA Territorial Cup Game

The winner of a wager between Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell and Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild will be decided soon. The two agreed to challenge each other to a Territorial Cup bet.

The Arizona State University Sun Devils and University of Arizona Wildcats will battle it out in Tucson. And this year, the Mayors are upping the ante on their annual wager. The Mayor who loses must not only buy dinner and bring a six-pack or growler of locally brewed beer to the winner – he also must produce a piece of branded football team merchandise signed by the winning team’s coach.

“Mayor Rothschild and I have swapped bragging rights over the years – in fact ASU has won four of the last six Territorial Cups – but in 2018, I’m very sure that I will be the one enjoying the spoils of a Wildcat loss,” Mitchell said. “Even though Jonathan thinks this year will be different, I know he will look great wearing ASU gear when he buys me dinner and a cold beer. Go Devils!”
