TUCSON – The 40-year-old U.S. citizen truck driver was arrested at the Interstate 19 immigration checkpoint near Amado after U.S. Border Patrol agents found 31 illegal aliens in his tractor-trailer.
U.S. Border Patrol agents discovered the victims after the driver in a 2008 Freightliner was referred for secondary inspection. The 31 Mexican nationals concealed in the cargo trailer are all illegally present in the country.
The driver was arrested for human smuggling. The Mexican nationals, ages 15 to 40, will be processed for immigration violations.
