Bechtel expanding Glendale operations

Bechtel is expanding its Glendale operation. Bechtel, Glendale’s 10th largest employer, needs to accommodate more staff at the Glendale Corporate Center near 99th Avenue and the Loop 101. The company plans to lease an additional 32,000 square feet at the location that could eventually accommodate a total workforce of up to 500.

Currently, there are more than 350 Bechtel employees based at the 72,000-square-foot Glendale Corporate Center. The additional space will be used to support new Bechtel projects.

Last year, Bechtel, one of the most respected engineering and construction companies in the world, chose to keep its Business Services operation in Glendale after a nationwide search of cities. The company moved from the northern part of Glendale to a new property near the city’s Sports and Entertainment District.

Bechtel has more than 52,000 employees working on projects in more than 40 countries. In 2011, the company posted revenue of $32.9 billion. It is estimated Bechtel’s presence in Glendale will generate approximately $4.3 million in direct revenue to the city. “When a workforce, like Bechtel’s, makes plans to grow in our city, we take pride knowing that Glendale’s business-friendly environment is responsible for that economic decision,” said Brian Friedman, Glendale Economic Development Director. “The Arizona Commerce Authority worked with the city to make Bechtel’s expansion a reality, this is a great example of the state’s commitment to attracting and retaining companies like Bechtel.”

“Seeing established Arizona companies decide to grow their operations in our state is a testament to the strong business environment created here,” said Don Cardon, president and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority. “Bechtel is a strong partner in Glendale, providing the high quality jobs we are hoping to secure for Arizona citizens.”
