Yesterday the Pima County Sheriff’s Department received a 9-1-1 call reference a 28 year old man who had reportedly jumped off a cliff and possibly suffered broken bones. The incident had occurred at Tanque Verde Falls off of Reddington Road.
Upon arrival on scene, deputies learned that the injured man was at Tanque Verde Falls with his brother. They had been drinking and the 28-year-old decided to jump off a cliff, only to land in shallow water. It is suspected that he suffered multiple fractures to his lower extremities. He was moved out of the water by his brother and others. Then they called 9-1-1.
When deputies and volunteers of the Southern Arizona Rescue Association (SARA) arrived at the bottom of the canyon, they had to first swim across a river in order to get to the patient. He was found conscious and alert at the upper Turkey Pool. After he was stabilized, he was “short hauled” via DPS Southern Air Rescue helicopter to Reddington Road, where he was transferred into a waiting ambulance. The patient was then transported to University Medical Center. His injuries are considered serious.
