Both Green Lake and Manzanita fires lightning caused
Regular monsoonal moisture over the course of the last week has extinguished both the Green Lake and Manzanita Fires.
Fire managers had made the decision to manage the lightning-caused Green Lake and Manzanita Fires in order to achieve multiple resource and protection objectives. However, both fires were declared out this week after heavy precipitation at the north rim extinguished any remaining heat in the fires.
Neither fire had ever grown to more than one-quarter acre in size.
The Green Lake Fire was located on the Walhalla Neck on the west side of the Cape Royal Road approximately one mile south of the Greenland Lake Cabin. The fire was caused by lightning.
The Manzanita Fire was located near the Green Lake Fire on the Walhalla Plateau. The fire was caused by lightning.
