On November 9, 2012, at about 7:48 p.m., deputies with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department responded to a reported vehicle fire in the 4500 block of North Caminito Callado. Upon arrival, they found a Mercedes-Benz sedan fully engulfed in flames and a nearby homeowner who attempted to extinguish the fire with a garden hose.
Once Rural Metro Fire Department arrived on scene they were able to put out the flames. It was discovered that there was a body located in the driver’s seat of the car. Investigators with the Pima County Sheriff’s Traffic Unit, as well as detectives from the Arson and Homicide Units responded to the scene to conduct their investigations. The registered owner of the vehicle was located out of town, but advised detectives that he had a friend staying with him in Tucson.
Identification of the victim is still pending. The cause of the vehicle fire has not been determined yet. The ongoing investigation of the circumstances and cause of death will depend upon the forensic analysis following an autopsy and other evidence gathered at the scene.
