Avondale, ASU partner to offer Small Business Academy

The City of Avondale’s Neighborhood & Family Services Department has partnered with the Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business to develop the Avondale Small Business Academy, a new program to increase technical capacity and help small businesses grow.

The academy offers educational sessions ranging from technology at your office, how to get a loan, expanding your business or marketing, just to name a few. Sessions will be open to all Valley residents but especially to Avondale Small Business Owners.

Scholarships will be available for some businesses depending on their location and size. All graduates will receive a certificate of completion by ASU and the City of Avondale. The first two educational sessions will take place on January 23 and January 30, 2013.

Wednesday, January 23 – Strategic Growth

This seminar focuses on identifying mechanisms to expand the uses of organizational competencies. Students will learn about different forms of growth, motivations for growth, and paths for growth, and obstacles that typically accompany growth efforts. The seminar requires active participation and includes exercises that allow participants to apply concepts to their own organizations.

Wednesday, January 30 – Competing through Services

One of the key mechanisms for companies to distinguish themselves in the marketplace, retain loyal customers, and grow profits is through the design and execution of service. The goal of the course is to provide the frameworks and tools needed to achieve service excellence. Key takeaways from this course will focus on best practices for service excellence.
