The Arizona Daily Independent is proud to announce that Sergio Arellano has agreed to serve as publisher as we enter a new era of digital reporting. Arellano’s broad experience in community outreach will serve to grow our readership across the state of Arizona while we continue to provide independent investigative reporting.
Arellano, a wounded warrior who served in Iraq is no stranger to working in the trenches. As a small business owner, Arellano learned first-hand the obstacles and opportunities for growing enterprises in Arizona. Under his leadership, the AZDI will expand its sales and staff.
Sergio grew up in Southern Arizona, and attended TUSD schools. He returned to Tucson after serving honorably in the U.S. Army. While serving in the infantry Sergio was awarded the Army Combat Infantryman Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon.
“I am looking forward to leading our team in the expansion of our readership and our role in informing Arizonans on the issues that affect their lives. As an independent, I will continue the tradition of the AZDI to give voice to all people,” said Arellano. “We get the inside scoop from the people who are doing the heavy lifting in government and the people who are doing the heavy lifting in the small business community. We offer a unique glimpse of Arizona and all of the fine people who call it home.”
