Smokers beware, you are no longer welcome in Pima County. At least in or around Pima County public buildings.
Signs will soon announce the ban of smoking presence on County-owned parcels. The County will start posting signs on the downtown complex first.
The Pima County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to ban smoking near county owned buildings in November.
The County released a statement this week advising the public that “For visitors and employees in the downtown complex, the ban spells a slightly longer walk. No longer will smoking be allowed in the breezeways between the County buildings.”
However, they threw the smokers a bone and advised the public that “the City-owned Presidio Park remains available to smokers. Open area parks are not currently included, although community centers are included.”
Allyn Bulzomi, the Director of Human Resources, said the policy is designed to hold down self-insurance costs. One Pima County resident said of the move, “They have never seemed very concerned about the cost of nearly anything before, this is encouraging. Maybe next they could cut their public relations team and budget in half and we could get us some decent roads.”
