The Pima County Sheriff’s Department received multiple 9-1-1 calls about a possible aircraft crash west of Ryan Airfield on February 8, 2013, at approximately 9:38 a.m. Deputies responded together with Three Points Fire Department to find pilot Terril (Ted) Edward Wilson, age 75 and his ariplane that had crash landed and flipped over.
The Wilson and his small single engine airplane was discovered in the desert area south of Ajo Highway, near South Postvale Road. Rescuers located Wilson who was the pilot and single occupant of the aircraft. Attempts to save the man’s life were unsuccessful and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators with the Sheriff’s Traffic Unit responded to the scene. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) was notified and will send investigators to the crash site. The investigation continues.
