Mountain View, CDO JTED students head for national competition

This month there’s another Sweet 16; that’s how many Pima County JTED Early Childhood Education (ECE) students won top awards at the recent Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State Championships. Several of them are on their way to compete at nationals in July.

JTED @ Mountain View senior Lauren Lundeberg won 1st place and $100 cash prizes for story telling techniques during the state completion, March 21 – 23, at the Westin La Paloma in Tucson.

Lundeberg and classmate, Cassie Sekich, took 1st place in the Service Project team event, recognizing worthwhile contributions to families, schools and communities. The duo focused on their March of Dimes fundraiser which brought in more than $600 and 3,000 diapers.

Briana Chaney and Ashley Yewell are 2nd place honorees in the same category. All four JTED @ Mountain View students are contenders for the FCCLA National Championships this summer in Nashville, TN.

Kayleigh Mathews secured a 2nd place finish in the Teach and Train individual event. The JTED @ Mountain View senior emphasized the importance of music with children. Mathews is also a national contender.

JTED @ Mountain View ECE students Anna Gerlach, Nicole Kautz and Courtney Gerry scored gold medals for the Focus on Children team category with their presentation on the significance of nutrition in early development.

Canyon del Oro (CDO) High School JTED student Mary Carsell scored 1st place at state, earning a perfect 100 score, gold medal and qualified for nationals in the Early Childhood event. Classmate, Alyssa Sisson, earned a 2nd place finish, gold medal and is also a national contender.

CDO’s Amanda Tveten brought home a gold, and Alicia Beaumier earned a silver medal.

In the Teach and Train category, CDO senior Rachel McCracken won 1st place, a gold medal and qualified for nationals. Classmates Kylie Brandt, Ellen Rubly and Natasha Kunzler scored silver medals.
