Alberto Martinez, age 22, has been arrested in connection with an attempted abduction of a juvenile female that occurred in the 1400 block of North Wilmot Road on the afternoon of May 5. Tucson Police Department officers from responded to a report of a 15-year old female, who had broken free of a would-be abductor.
The female had been walking towards a bus stop in the 1400 block of North Wilmot Road after visiting a family member at a condo complex located in the 1600 block of North Wilmot Road. The 15-year old female advised that she left the complex at approximately 2:20 p.m.
While walking, she noted that there was an adult male also walking from the complex in the same direction that she was going. Unexpectedly, the male approached her from behind and grabbed her.
Martinez told the 15-year old female that he was going to take her and implied that he would “hide her.” The female juvenile actively fought against the male and was ultimately able to break free.
She immediately ran to a nearby business and called her mother, who then called 911 to report the incident. As officers were responding to the area, they took note of another incident, which had been reported in the area, involving an unknown male suspect, who was causing a disturbance and exhibiting unusual behavior in the complex located in the 1600 block of North Wilmot Road. The suspect descriptions from both the attempted abduction incident as well as that of the male behaving erratically in the complex were very similar.
Officers were able to determine what residence Martinez was associated to at the complex. They successfully contacted Martinez at the residence and were able to take him into custody after a short while.
The 15-year old female was not injured during the course of the incident.
Martinez was arrested for 1 count of Attempted Kidnapping and 1 count of Aggravated Assault, both felony offenses.
