The Phoenix Police Department will begin training officers on how to properly apprehend dogs in emergency situations, including suspected animal cruelty and abuse, using new “tool kits” provided by the Phoenix Animal Cruelty Prevention Task Force.
Three training sessions will take place this week at the Mountain View Precinct, 2075 E. Maryvale Ave., 10 a.m. Monday, May 13, 8 a.m. Wednesday, May 15 and 4 p.m. Friday, May 17.
The Task Force is generating donations of money and supplies, creating marketing materials, including a public service announcement, and identifying other partner agencies and individuals to support this mission.
“These tool kits will provide a safe and standardized way for officers to apprehend dogs in need of assistance, including victims of abuse and neglect,” said Phoenix Police Commander Tim Hampton, Task Force member.
