Cholla High graduation party turns deadly

On May 24, 2013, at 1:47 a.m., Tucson Police Department officers responded to a report of shots fired at a residence in the 2700 block of West Calle Arandas. Officers found a 17-year old male, in the front yard, who was transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries and 21-year old Miguel Altamirano, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Detectives determined that the residents at the home were hosting a high school graduation party. An estimated 30 to 50 guests were in attendance. During the party, a physical altercation began in the front yard between the suspect and the 21-year old victim. During that altercation, the suspect produced a handgun and fired it towards the 21-year old victim and other people in the area. As a result, both victims were struck by gunfire. The suspect and his associates then left the residence in a vehicle.

During their investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for 18-year old Joseph Goodman for 1st Degree Murder for his involvement in the incident. At about 4:00 p.m., U.S. Marshals took Mr. Goodman into custody at a relative’s home. He was booked into Pima County Jail for 1 count of First Degree Murder and 1 count of Aggravated Assault. Anyone with information is urged to contact 911 or 88-CRIME.
