Phoenix’s Youth and Education Office is looking for individuals to serve as members of the Youth and Education Commission. Members will advise the mayor, city council and city management on how to improve educational strategies and youth development within our community.
The Youth and Education Commission will be comprised of 17 members from local businesses, youth-serving organizations, secondary/postsecondary institutions and the Arizona Department of Education. The goals of the commission include:
◾Creating and strengthening partnerships and communication between the city and secondary/postsecondary institutions.
◾Assisting in establishing policies, developing educational initiatives and securing resources for career readiness.
◾Providing quality educational television programming focusing on educators, youth and learners of all ages.
The Youth and Education Office is also seeking youth from each council district to be part of the commission and assist in advising the city on opportunities and challenges relating to youth.
The Youth and Education Commission will meet at a minimum of once per quarter. Commission members and youth will begin meeting monthly in the summer of 2013 to begin developing a new vision, mission and strategic plan for the next three years.
