Tucson woman shot in suicide attempt

Tucson Police detectives worked throughout the day investigating the circumstances that led up an early morning shooting that occurred in the 2600 block of East Silver Street on June 8, 2013, at 1:14 a.m. A female caller had told 911 that she had a gun and she was going to commit suicide.

The woman also stated there were other people inside the residence with her.

As the first three officers arrived on scene, they approached the residence on foot and encountered an adult male and an adult female outside the front door of the residence. The female was armed with a handgun. As the officers made contact with them, the female brandished the gun.

All three officers fired their duty weapons at the female. Both the female and the male were struck by the gunfire.

The officers were not injured. The female was transported to a local area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries shortly after her arrival. The male was transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives from the Homicide Unit and the Office of Internal Affairs responded to continue the investigation. At this time, the Homicide Unit is conducting a criminal investigation into the incident. In addition, a parallel administrative investigation is being conducted to determine if proper procedures and applicable policies were followed.
