Tucson man drowns at Tanque Verde Falls

tanque verde fallsOn July 28, 2013, at about 5:00 p.m., Pima County deputies responded to a call reference a rescue involving a possible drowning victim at Tanque Verde Falls. A man was seen jumping from a cliff into a pool of water and sustained a head injury in the process.

The man did not immediately resurface and bystanders in the area immediately reacted by getting the man out of the water. When they got him out of the water, he was unconscious and not breathing. The bystanders immediately started life saving techniques until deputies arrived a few minutes later.

Upon arrival, deputies took over the scene and assisted the individuals who were rendering aid. Paramedics arrived a short time later and assessed the victim, who was later pronounced deceased on scene. The victim was described as a 29-year-old man from the Tucson area. Witnesses were interviewed by deputies and all gave a similar account of what had occurred.

The Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Unit and the Arizona Department of Public Safety Air Unit also assisted in the rescue.
