At approximately 5:30 p.m. on August 4, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department received an anonymous tip regarding the location of Robert Nelson. Robert Nelson is the inmate who did not return last week to the Pima County Jail following a court ordered release for a doctor’s appointment.
Deputies responded to a residence in the 3900 block of West Valencia Road, where Nelson was hiding. The deputies were able to talk Nelson out of the residence and took him into custody without incident.
Nelson was transported to the Pima County Adult Detention Center and booked on one count of Escape Second Degree.
On July 31, Nelson failed to return to the Pima County Adult Detention Complex after he was temporarily released from custody by order of Superior Court Judge Brenden Griffin.
According to the Superior Court Condition of Release and Order, the Sheriff’s Department was authorized to temporarily release Nelson into the custody of his girlfriend for the purpose of attending an appointment. He was ordered released at 7:00 a.m. on July 31, 2013 and was to return himself to custody at 4:00 p.m. By 6:00 p.m., Nelson had failed to return to the jail as court ordered and was deemed an escapee by Pima County Jail policy and procedure.
Nelson, was being held on Aggravated DUI/ Driving on a Revoked or Suspended License and a failure to appear for Aggravated DUI from 2012.
