CD1 race still intrigues Tobin

The rumors are still circulating about House Speaker Andy Tobin, who is said to be seriously Speaker Tobinconsidering jumping into the CD1 race. The Speaker is currently soliciting input in his district to assess whether he should take the leap and run for Congress, the rumor monger said. Strong rumor has it that as more people have encouraged Tobin to run in recent weeks and the more he considers the race, the more convinced he is that 2014 provides the best chance of taking out Kirkpatrick. Obviously, it would become increasingly difficult to unseat her if she secured a second term, and although neophyte Adam Kwasman has announced his candidacy, it appears that Tobin would be the best person to do the job.

Tobin could declare his intentions within the next month; however, the meticulous speaker has a checklist he needs to satisfy, including gauging his family and business partner’s feelings on the possible campaign. The normal process is Tobin will either declare he is running or go into a “testing the waters” mode, which is akin to having an exploratory committee.

If he decides to jump into the race, Tobin will have to decide if he will remain speaker and whether he will move into CD1 (Tobin actually resides in CD4). However, he has said before he believes Gosar is doing a good job, and he would not look to challenge an incumbent party mate. Right now, Kwasman is the only Republican who has declared a campaign in CD1. Clearly, if there were to be match up against Kwasman in the GOP primary, Tobin has the edge being a proven experienced legislator with over a decade in the Arizona House demonstrating his leadership skills as Speaker.
