The members of Arizona’s Legislative District 2 have issued a demand to their Senators, Jeff Flake and John McCain, that they “stand with Arizona, vote to defund Obamacare and put away their political pride.” The members of LD4 demanded an immediate withdrawal of funding for Obamacare.
In his first act as Chairman of Arizona’s LD2, Sergio Arellano, a millenial and veteran, led his members in the rebuke of Flake and McCain after Arizona’s Republican House delegation voted to defund Obamacare last week.
Arellano said in a statement released on Monday, “We must make sure that Obamacare is not funded and by voting the way our Congressmen did last week, our Senators can take a stand and support the will of their constituents.”
“When you have approx 90% of Republicans saying no and our elected officials are hell bent on imposing their will upon their constituents, it is up to the constituents to hold their officials accountable,” said Arellano, a young leader in Arizona’s Hispanic community. “This resolution informs our Senators that we are watching and that they should be worried. Perhaps they may be able to ignore one Legislative District but if all districts rise up and put forth a resolution to rebuke this blatant disregard for its people, we cannot be ignored. I am asking my fellow colleagues to stand up and help make our voices heard.”
Resolution of the Arizona Legislative District 2 Republican Committee in opposition to Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake’s refusal to Vote to Defund Obamacare
Preface: Now that the disastrous consequences of Obamacare are being fully exposed and still more daily, it is time for our Arizona Republican Senators McCain and Flake to vote to defund Obamacare. Our Senators cannot place themselves above the law with Obamacare exemptions continuing to fund their healthcare at 75%. Multiple defunding bills reached the Senate in the past and were quickly dispatched by Harry Reid without Senators being required to vote or go on record. Conservative grassroots activism forced the House to force Senators to show their true faces to the citizens who elected them. By voting to force defunding at a 60 vote threshold in the Senate, we gain leverage to hold the debt ceiling at current limits. We understand that a vote for cloture is a vote to fund Obamacare.
Whereas: The Passage of a Continuing Resolution that defunds Obamacare in its entirety is a great victory for fiscal conservatives. The grassroots momentum must continue with the support of our Senator employees.
Whereas: President Obama has granted waivers for Members of Congress and Corporations allowing them to be excluded from said act. Aside from Democrats and Independents there are even unions, who are usually his most strident supporters, speaking up in protest of this law and say it will shatter the 40 hour work week.
Meanwhile, he refuses to delay the individual mandate that will impose huge costs on families across the country. It is no wonder the latest polling data confirms that Obamacare is more unpopular than ever with nine out of ten Americans opposing it.
Whereas: Both Arizona Senators refuse to pledge the following: “I, ___________, pledge to the taxpayers of the state of ___________, and to the American people, that I will: ONE, support the full repeal of Obamacare (also known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act); and TWO, oppose any bill or budget resolution that provides funding to implement or enforce any part of it.”
Therefore, it is Resolved: We, the Executive Committee of Legislative District 2 unanimously affirm and declare our opposition to Senators McCain and Flake’s refusal to vote to defund Obamacare. We urge and demand that our Republican Senators stand with Arizona, vote to defund Obamacare and put away their political pride. Funding must be withdrawn immediately. We will accept nothing less.
Resolved and passed by unanimous vote of LD2 Precinct Committeeman at the Sept 21, 2013 General Meeting
