3 smugglers arrested in west Phoenix

On September 24, 2013, deputies in the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office arrested three suspects at a house located several miles west of metropolitan Phoenix and booked them into jail on drug related charges. Five pounds of methamphetamine were seized from the house after a search warrant was served.

All the suspects admitted to deputies they were in the country illegally. Their illegal status was confirmed by a hold placed on them by agents from Immigration & Customs Enforcement. They further admitted to transporting the seized drugs across the U.S. border with Mexico.

Deputies approached the house on 6526 W. Riva Road around 3:30 p.m. yesterday, after noticing some activity during their surveillance of the residence. All the suspects under investigation fled the house. Three suspects were subsequently apprehended and taken into custody.

The suspects are: Manjarrez-Cruz, Jose De Jesus, age 21; Ramos-Ramirez, Miguel Antonio, age 30; and Zazueta-Vega, Armando, age 22.

The three listed suspects were booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail for Possession of Dangerous Drugs, a class 4 felony, Possession of Dangerous Drugs for Sale, a class 2 felony, and Conspiracy – Dangerous Drugs for Sale, a class 4 felony. All three suspects are currently being held without bond because of their immigration status.
