Former Brewer spokesman shares “dirty” Suess titles

matthew-benson-tweetsMatthew Benson, a lobbyist with Veridus and former spokesperson for Governor Jan Brewer known as an expert in “strategic communications” including “reputation management, crisis response, and social media,” went on a bizarre #DrSeussTitlesThatSoundALittleDirty Twitter spree yesterday in response to Senator Ted Cruz’s filibuster.

The former Director of Communications and chief spokesman for Arizona’s Governor joined the lobbying firm in July. The firm represents healthcare organizations including Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association, Reachout Healthcare America, Scan Health Group Arizona, and Arizona Association of Health Underwriters.

Benson told a Twitter follower, “I’ve got Dr. Seuss on the brain. Let’s just say, he’s a real fan favorite around the Benson household right now.”

He then proceeded to tweet ‘There’s a Wocket in my Pocket’ #DrSeussTitlesThatSoundALittleDirty, ‘And to Think That I Saw it on Mulberry Street’ #DrSeussTitlesThatSoundALittleDirty, ‘Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are?’ #DrSeussTitlesThatSoundALittleDirty, ‘Hop on Pop’ #DrSeussTitlesThatSoundALittleDirty, and concluded “Just givin’ the people what they want!”

During Benson’s tenure with Brewer, the Governor pushed through Medicaid expansion, which is the largest expansion of government in Arizona’s history. Healthcare organizations are estimated to make millions off the program in the first year.

Senator Ted Cruz, a staunch opponent to Obamacare, read a modified version of the Dr. Seuss classic “Green Eggs and Ham” during his filibuster on Tuesday night. The Senator, who is gaining popularity with the millennial generation and conservatives, read into the official Senate record, “When Americans tried it, they discovered they did not like green eggs and ham and they did not like Obamacare either,” Cruz read. “They did not like Obamacare in a box, with a fox, in a house or with a mouse. It is not working.”

Capitol followers, sharing the tweets on Facebook, started creating their own “Seussy” titles in response: “Oh! What a Hobby to Lobby!, That Matt is a Fat Cat Now!, and Benson’s not Bitter – he’s just drunk on Twitter!”
