House passes border security bill

border fenceThe Border Safety and Security Act legislation that funds the critical border security functions of the Department of Homeland Security, passed by a vote of 249 to 175 on Thursday.

Arizona’s Representative Paul Gosar said, “Border security shouldn’t be left to the whims of those who are trying to score political points during the current shutdown. Border security is among the highest priorities for those of us who represent districts that see and feel the violence that comes from an already porous and antiquated system.”

Gosar said that “Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and President Obama need to put the safety of those living in our border states above political point-scoring by enacting the House passed Border Safety and Security Act. Like many of the 15 bills the House passed over the last eight days to fund critical functions of the government, this is a matter of life and death.”

Arizona Representative Ron Barber, who claims to support the Border Patrol agents and the people livng along the border, voted against the bill.
