Through $119,000 in grant funding from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the Oro Valley Police Department was able to purchase a new 2013 Ford E350 DUI phlebotomy van and a 2013 “Police Package” DUI Chevy Tahoe.
The phlebotomy van will be deployed regularly with the Southern Arizona DUI Task Force to provide regional support to participating police departments. This van will create efficiencies by enabling investigating officers and suspects to remain on-scene for an investigative blood draw, eliminating the need to drive to an area hospital. The van will also be on display during public safety events to promote DUI education and awareness.
The Chevy Tahoe will be a designated “DUI Enforcement” vehicle and will replace an older vehicle within the OVPD fleet. This vehicle will be deployed during the evening hours with the primary mission of removing impaired drivers from our roadways.
