PCC students warn “The NSA is Spying On You!”

pcc“The NSA is Spying On You!” The Young Americans for Liberty Pima Community College chapter is handing out fliers with this heading. Their reason is two fold: first, to get the attention of college students filled with apathy and second, so students can learn more about the NSA at their virtual conference with an information specialist.

On December 10th at the West Campus, the YALP are hosting an online event with Jim Harper (no, not from The Newsroom) from the Cato Institute, who is the Director of information Policy Studies, as well as a frequent guest on Fox News and CNN. With the NSA constantly in the news, Jonathan Soto the Pima Chapter President said, “really interesting and important for our community to know about the NSA.” Adding that this will be, “An opportunity to get to know how they are violating the 4th Amendment.”

One member of YALP, Carlos Bunzira, said, “Having an affiliation to four different African countries cause of my background, government is something that has disappointed me a lot. YAL’s ideas interested me, because the notion of less governmental intervention, is something I have always felt to be needed especially in place where you have bad government.”

Brandon Huerta, the Outreach Coordinator, said through email, “The upcoming NSA event will be pretty interesting. I have seen people reading the heading of our flyers with concern in their faces. “The NSA is watching you!” is a direct affirmation that will make people wonder how the NSA actions actually affect us. The special speaker Jim Harper, who is an expert in the Privacy issue, will clearly explain how the government is violating our civil liberty to privacy. The event, in my opinion, will be a very good experience for anyone who attends.”

This politically active organization not only holds informational sessions like this, but also is planning to serve and prepare breakfast at the Ronald Donald House on December 13th something we can all appreciate from young people. With the motto “Give because you want to. Not because you have to.”

The event is at 4:30 West Campus in room A127, December 10th.
